Didier Jaffre, directeur général de l’Agence régionale de santé (ARS) Occitanie, a fait le déplacement en Lozère, ce lundi 27 janvier 2025, pour inaugurer ce nouvel outil, en service depuis septembre 2024.
The various stakeholders who contributed to its creation are unanimous. The second line of Smur (Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Structure) of the Lozère Hospital, operational since September 2024, is above all a collective victory. This Monday, January 27, 2025, the inauguration of this new tool was organized in the room of the establishment's supervisory board, in the presence of Didier Jaffre, Director General of the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS), elected officials, doctors, health executives and user representatives…

It is a relief for the regulating doctors, who can now make decisions with less pressure. It is also a relief for the firefighters, almost all of whom are volunteers in Lozère. The second line will relieve the teams on the ground, which will allow for better care.”
Two years of work and consultation were necessary for this project to come to fruition. “Didier Jaffre arrived in July 2022, recalls the deputy Sophie Pantel and former president of the Department. The new Smur line was one of the first topics we discussed, before many letters and meetings.”
The general director of ARS Occitanie also remembers these first exchanges: “You really convinced me that this second Smur line was needed. I replied to you: “We will always find the financial means. I am not worried about that. On the other hand, we have to find the doctors and nurses who are good.” So we told you: “Go ahead, do that second line. Recruit!”“
Since they were put into service, the two new Smur vehicles have also made it possible to adapt to the specificities of Lozère. “The territory is vast and mountainous,” summarizes Didier Jaffre. The organization of health must conform to its geographical and demographic specificities. We cannot apply national models uniformly across the territory. Health is for everyone, everywhere, regardless of their financial means, regardless of where they live.”
This investment will cost at least €800,000 per year. Depending on the activity, this amount could reach €1.4 million. The second line continues to gradually gain momentum.
