A revolution is brewing for the batteries of our smartphones

In 2026, we could see a significant evolution in the capacity of smartphone batteries. In any case, this is what is suggested by a Korean blog (“yeux1122”), on the Naver platform, quoted by our colleagues at Neowin. In essence, according to this blog, starting next year, major Chinese smartphone manufacturers are expected to offer devices with 7,000 mAh to 8,000 mAh batteries.

New batteries

Generally, an increase in battery capacity implies an increase in its dimensions. However, these smartphone manufacturers would rely on new chemical compositions that allow more energy to be stored, while keeping the same dimensions or even reducing them. In other words, smartphones using these batteries would have quite reasonable dimensions.

And the good news is that similar technologies should also arrive on future Apple and Samsung products. As for the iPhone, the new generation of battery could arrive in 2026, therefore, on the iPhone 18 series.

Apple would develop its own batteries

For now, this information should be considered with caution, since it does not come from an official source. However, it should be noted that, regarding Apple, previous rumors have already mentioned the development of a new composition for batteries, internally.

In 2023, the Korean site ETNews wrote that Apple would develop a new type of battery that has never been marketed worldwide. At the time, the site indicated that this battery could arrive in 2025.

In any case, if Apple manages to develop more efficient batteries than those currently used, this would allow the iPhone to have exceptional autonomy, while maintaining correct dimensions for a flagship. Indeed, thanks to the optimization of software, hardware, and the energy efficiency of the processor, recent iPhones already have good battery life.

  • According to a new rumor, major Chinese brands will soon offer smartphones with 7,000 mAh to 8,000 mAh batteries, which have reasonable dimensions
  • These brands are said to be developing new technologies that allow more energy to be stored with the same volume
  • And Apple and Samsung are said to be working on similar technologies
