Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul are considered two of the greatest series ever produced. Since their conclusion, rumors have been rife regarding potential sequels and reboots. And precisely, the question was directly asked to its creator Vince Gilligan in an interview granted to Variety.

The screenwriter notably addressed the idea of a spin-off series devoted to Walter White Jr, and the least we can say is that he fears the worst:

I would hate the idea of Walt Jr following in Walt's footsteps into the crime industry. This is probably the kind of thing someone will come up with in 10 or 15 years – Walter Jr. as an Albuquerque crime lord succeeding where his father failed.

“It's fun to think about the fate of the characters”

The door is therefore not completely closed, but the director is not showing enormous enthusiasm either . It must be said that for the moment, he has other hot issues to manage and in particular a series with Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul) for Apple TV+.

On the side of AMC, the channel which produced the two series, we are also very open to the idea of seeing these charismatic characters in action again. Last year, the channel's program director, Dan McDermott, said:

I can assure you that we are doing everything in our power to encourage Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould to continue this universe. I think you should ask them instead, but our door will always remain open to them. I look forward to the day when Vince, Peter or our friends at Sony call me and say, “Hey, I think we found a new idea for a series in this universe.”

Of course, it is far too early to know if a new series could see the light of day. We can also wonder what there is left to tell in this universe and if we simply haven't already taken the tour.

On your side, and if you liked Breaking Bad , do you think a sequel or spin-off is necessary? And if so, what form could it take? Tell us in the comments.
