Despite a complicated economic and political context, private sector employment is managing to increase in Occitanie in the third quarter of 2024. It is increasing or maintaining its position in most departments, with only Ariège losing jobs this quarter, according to a study by Urssaf Languedoc Roussillon.

“Over the course of a year, regional employment continues to increase at a rate higher than the national average. The wage bill and the average salary per capita are also more dynamic in Occitanie than on average in France”, the organization specifies.

Industry created the most jobs in one year

Thus, in the third quarter 2024, the private sector workforce increased in the region by 0.2% in three months, after a slight decline in the previous quarter (-0.1%). “Over one year, Occitanie is one of the French regions where employment is the most dynamic: the workforce is up by 0.5%, or 7,650 jobs created”. While at the national level, the workforce has only increased by 0.3% over one year.

In the third quarter, salaried employment in Occitanie represented 1,576,100 employees, with a payroll of 12.7 billion euros. As for the average salary, it is 2,678 euros, up 0.6% over three months and 2.7% over one year. The number of employees increased the most in the third quarter in the hotel, catering and aeronautics sectors, with an increase of 0.7%. However, over a year, it was in industry that they increased the most, with +1.9%, with 4,400 jobs created.
