The historic victory in Athens in 2004
Olga and Jean-Luc Manaudou have missed many of their children's victories. On August 15, 2004, Laure Manaudou made history by winning the gold medal in the Athens pools in the 400m freestyle. Her very first Olympic title. In an interview given to Parisien Magazine published Saturday, January 11, Laure and Florent Manaudoucome back to this absence. “Neither my brothers nor my parents attended my race, this August 15, 2024, remembered Laure Manaudou. My father was a bank employee and my mother looked after children, they could not afford to pay for plane tickets for the whole family. They joined me later because Paris Match had offered to finance the trip in exchange for an article on site, at the end of the Games.”

Florent Manaudou has his theory. “Perhaps out of superstition, our parents have perpetuated the tradition: they have not attended any of our Olympic competitions after these Games.” Until the 2024 Paris Games. “They made an exception last summer, because it was in Paris”, he explained. To which Laure Manaudou reacted: “It's a subject that still stings…”
Laure and Florent, a solid duo
At the Paris Games last summer last, Florent Manaudou was crowned with success: two bronze medals for the French titan. One in the 50m freestyle and one in the 4x100m medley relay. The family gathered in the French capital to follow the competition. But there is one member of the family who has often been present for Florent Manaudou: his sister Laure. In 2012, at the London Olympics, the ex-wife of Jérémy Frérot witnesses her little brother's victory. When he comes out of the pool, she runs into his arms, tears in her eyes. An image that will remain in the annals of the Games.
In 2024, a consultant for France Télévisions, Laure Manaudou bursts into tears live on air. “When emotions take over everything. Thank you my brother for making me live unique moments. The pride of seeing you have pleasure, being happy is indescribable”, she wrote with emotion on Instagram. The brother and sister form a solid duo. The Olympics, a real family affair…
