Fin octobre, la marque nîmoise avait reçu une requête de la part de Lacoste, exigeant que le crocodile soit retiré du logo des Ateliers de Nîmes.

“Lacoste's lawyers have recognized the historical and cultural importance of the coat of arms for our brand, rooted in the tradition and know-how of Nîmes”. This Tuesday, December 17, in a press release, Guillaume Sagot, co-founder and director of Ateliers de Nîmes, is delighted. After the dispute between the Nîmes brand and the famous French house Lacoste, a compromise was finally reached at the beginning of the week. “A victory for our brand, the city of Nîmes and its community”, specifies the co-founder.

A single constraint imposed by Lacoste

And if Guillaume Sagot said he was ready to commit to not making a polo shirt so as not to compete with Lacoste, ultimately, the group imposed a completely different constraint on them: “Les Ateliers de Nîmes is committed to avoiding any use of the crocodile alone, which could lead to confusion with the famous Lacoste logo”, specifies its director.

Good news for the Nîmes entrepreneur, who also wishes to “express our gratitude to all those who have supported us over the last few days. Your commitment has shown once again the strength of our community and the weight of our collective attachment to Nîmes.”

A great year 2024 for the Nîmes brand

The opportunity also to take stock of 2024, a year “where we had our best financial year since our creation”, he emphasizes, while concluding: “We are proud to fly the flag for Nîmes and contribute on our scale to its influence, while preparing for 2025 with ambition. Starting next year, our brand will be represented by more than 35 partners in France, while continuing its international expansion with key markets such as Japan, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands”.
