A 19-year-old woman was found murdered in a residence in the Limoilou sector, in Quebec, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday . Police officers called to the scene also discovered a 16-year-old boy suffering from violent injuries that left people fearing for his life.

This is the sixth murder of the year in Quebec and the second to occur in the same week.

The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) indicated Thursday morning that its officers had intervened in a residence on rue Geneviève-Lamarre at the start of the night.

They discovered the two victims there, who bore marks of violence. The young woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the teenager was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

He is still too early to reveal the link between the two victims, declared Marie-Pier Rivard, communications officer for the SPVQ.

The SPVQ quickly deployed a command post near the residence where the two victims were found.

The Major Crimes Unit team opened an investigation and a mobile command post was deployed in the sector.

It was the arrest of a 16-year-old teenager for impaired driving and vehicle theft in the Limoilou sector, a little after midnight, which led the police to go to the residence on rue Geneviève-Lamarre .

It is currently unknown whether the young man has any connection to the two violent crimes under investigation ;an investigation.

The 16-year-old suspect was stopped while driving this van.

The suspect, who is currently detained, was to appear by telephone before the Youth Division during the evening of Thursday to answer one count of vehicle theft and another of driving while impaired. /p>

The police invite anyone who thinks they have information about these events to call 911 for immediate intervention.

Police officers set up a security perimeter at the intersection of rue Geneviève Lamarre and avenue Bardy.

The murder of the 19-year-old young woman is the sixth to occur in the SPVQ territory in 2023.

This is the number of homicides the highest recorded since 2017, during which nine murders were committed, including six only during the attack at the Grand Mosque of Quebec.

Asked to comment on the events that occurred during the night, Bruno Marchand indicated that it was a tragedy. The mayor of Quebec confided that he had relatives of the victims in his entourage.

It's extremely unfortunate for the people who are victims, the families, that's what our thoughts are for today, to think of these people, this family and the close ones, then there are close ones in my circle. So, there is something that is incomprehensible, that we have difficulty understanding, reacted the mayor.

Bruno Marchand commented on the matter on the sidelines of a press briefing Thursday afternoon.

He indicated that he preferred to wait until he had more information before commenting further on the matter. Bruno Marchand took the opportunity to reiterate his confidence in the SPVQ.

What I see from the police is that they deliver results for each of these unfortunate events in a diligent manner. They work very hard. They are present on the ground, I am very proud of our police officers. Now, for the future, we will wait to see what we have to understand about this situation and these situations to see what we can do, declared the mayor.

For his part, the leader of the official opposition at city hall, Claude Villeneuve, expressed his concern about the recent wave of violent crimes in Quebec.

He referred to the murders, but also to the violent home invasions that occurred late at night in the outlying neighborhoods. Several crimes, including the murder of the 19-year-old woman, occurred in Mr. Villeneuve's district, Maizerets-Lairet.

It's almost becoming a habit that we have to get up in the morning and see the notifications [of attacks on our phones]. That’s also how we learned [of the murder] that happened in Vanier. Late in the evening, there are people who are attacked in a residence and then it sometimes leads to deaths, lamented the leader of Quebec first.

Claude Villeneuve asks the head of the SPVQ to come out publicly to reassure the population.

He believes that the time has come for the leader of the SPVQ, Denis Turcotte, to reassure the population by taking stock of the series of violent crimes recently perpetrated on his territory. Claude Villeneuve wants to know in particular if these events have one or more phenomena in common.

He cited drug trafficking, the involvement of criminal organizations, mental health problems and hidden homelessness as potential causes.

There is an increase in events like these and I would like our police officers who, I am convinced, are doing everything necessary to clarify these crimes “Let's also do the work of reassuring the population and explaining to us what is happening and what they are observing,” said the opposition leader. p>

Claude Villeneuve also wants to know if Denis Turcotte has all the necessary means to carry out the current investigations. He indicated that the police chief could count on the unconditional support of his party's elected officials to help him obtain the resources he and his officers need.
