Abdelaziz Barrada: what did the former OM player die of ?

Former Olympique de Marseille midfielder and former Moroccan international, Abdelaziz Barrada, died this Thursday, October 24. He was 35 years old.

Abdelaziz Barrada has died. The news was announced this Thursday, October 24, 2024 in the evening by the Moroccan media. The Moroccan international football player, who had also played a time within Olympique de Marseille (2014-2016) and had passed through Paris Saint-Germain during his training, between 2007 and 2010, would have succumbed to a heart attack, reports the Moroccan site Le360Sport.

Born in Provins, Seine-et-Marne, on June 19, 1989, to parents from the southeast of Morocco, Abdelaziz Barrada continued his training at PSG by joining the Spanish club Getafe CF in the summer of 2010 until 2013. The midfielder then joined Al-Jazira (2013-2014) and Al-Nasr Dubai (2015-2016). (2016-2018) in the United Arab Emirates, with a short stint between these two clubs, therefore with Marseille, from 2014 to 2016, before heading to Turkey and Antalyaspor (2018-2019).

Best Moroccan hopeful in 2011

On the international side, Abdelaziz Barrada will have participated in some 28 matches of the Atlas Lions, between 2011 and 2015. He was notably in the team on the occasion of the 2012 Olympic Games in London and during the CAN 2012 and 2013. The one who had been elected best Moroccan hope in 2011 had retired in 2021 after having spent a final season at US Lusitanos Saint-Maur. Since then, he had been seen at different times on the set of beIn Sports as a consultant. 

The OM player'Moroccan international Amine Harit quickly expressed his emotion on social networks on Thursday evening. "Abdelaziz Barrada may Allah have mercy on you support& his loved ones,” he declared on X. Olympique de Marseille, for its part, wanted to “present its most sincere condolences to his family and share the pain of his loved ones,” while PSG was moved by his death. In his former club Marseille, the former head of security also expressed his grief on the same social network. “This evening, I learned with deep sadness of the death of Abdelaziz Barrada, former OM player and ex-Moroccan international”, confided Guy Cazadamont, adding: “I have always admired his professionalism and kindness. My sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace.”
