IFA is currently taking place in Berlin, an iconic trade show for consumer electronics and household appliances. This year marks the 100th edition of this unmissable event for tech aficionados. The biggest brands have, of course, answered the call of IFA.
Thus, HONOR took advantage of IFA to unveil its brand new folding smartphone: the HONOR Magic V3. The manufacturer has never ceased to boast about its new gem, thinner and lighter than ever. During the official presentation of the HONOR Magic V3, George Zhao, CEO of HONOR, did not compare his new workhorse to other folding smartphones on the market. For the simple reason that in his eyes, no folding smartphone rivals the HONOR Magic V3. Only the iPhone 15 and Samsung Galaxy S24 would be worthy competitors…
When it comes to foldable smartphones, two obstacles to purchase always come up: they are too thick and heavy, and generally too expensive. With its new HONOR Magic V3, the manufacturer wanted to show that foldable smartphones could be (very) thin and (very) light.
Thus, the new foldable smartphone from HONOR displays a thinness of 4.35 mm when open, and 9.3 mm when closed. For comparison, we are talking about a thickness of 5.6 mm (open) and 12.1 mm (closed) for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and a thickness of 5.1 m (open) and 10.5 mm (closed) for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Regarding the weight, the HONOR Magic V3 is a real featherweight (around 226 grams) compared to its competitors: 239 grams for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and 257 grams for Google's folding smartphone.

So much so that the CEO of HONOR affirms that the competition is rather on the side of the iPhone 15 and the Samsung Galaxy S24. “To be honest, I don’t think there is a folding smartphone that can compete with the HONOR Magic V3. There is no real competitor in the folding smartphone market. So we are looking for our main competitor on the side of “classic” smartphones. So, I think the best smartphones are Samsung Galaxy S and iPhone. We want to remind iPhone users to take a look at the HONOR Magic V3 reviews and, perhaps, find a new alternative”he told journalists at the IFA.
It's true that the HONOR Magic V3 has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to its features. In addition to its thinness and lightness, it is particularly resistant and offers fast charging as well as a large capacity battery for better battery life. In addition, it sports one of the best processors on the market (the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) and its triple camera is rather impressive.
Compared to the iPhone 15 and Samsung Galaxy S24, the HONOR Magic V3 may suffer from a somewhat disappointing and frustrating interface. The AI features (2024 requires) are not yet up to par. Indeed, the AI gestures lack precision and the Magic Portal is limited by a restricted number of compatible applications in France.
Choosing an HONOR Magic V3 over an iPhone or Galaxy S will depend on your expectations. But one thing is for sure: when it comes to foldable smartphones, the HONOR Magic V3 is the king's choice.
