Address, financial details…: don’t throw your plane ticket in the trash after a flight, we explain why

It is not recommended to simply throw away your plane ticket and boarding pass without rendering them unusable. MAXPPP – Richard Villalon

Your plane ticket, like your boarding pass, can be a real gold mine for hackers. Instead of simply throwing them in the trash, it is advisable to destroy them entirely, like other identity documents.

This is certainly a habit that you tend to do. According to the Journal du Geek, your plane boarding pass and your plane ticket contain a lot of personal data. It is the barcode that is sought after, interesting for hackers.

The latter, present on the boarding pass, holds a lot of sensitive data, such as the address, the telephone number, or even some financial details.

It is therefore a hacking on the part of a hacker, by decrypting it, who could access this sensitive data. You must therefore tear up your ticket, so that it is unusable before throwing it away, to avoid any malicious act.

Photo on the web

It is also possible for these criminals to take advantage of it remotely. Therefore, avoid posting a photo of yourself with your boarding pass or your plane ticket on social networks. It is possible that they can retrieve the information, or even modify or cancel your return flight! A banality that can totally turn into a real nightmare.

It is therefore recommended to keep the boarding pass on your phone. In addition to being ecological, this helps protect your data
