Who says end of the year, obviously says “Spotify Wrapped”, this complete and personalized summary developed by Spotify for each of its subscribers, and which allows you to look back in a few slides on the musical year that is about to pass. But for a few weeks now, the French version of Spotify has not only allowed you to listen to millions of music tracks and podcasts, but also to enjoy “audiobooks”.
Towards an audiobook market boosted by Spotify in 2025 ?
Remember that each Spotify Premium subscriber can claim a total of 12 hours of monthly listening, from a catalog of 200,000 works, including 15,000 in French. While the audiobook market remains fairly nebulous in France, many professionals believe that Spotify could quickly allow the market to explode, with a new form of democratization of this sector in which many readers, although very assiduous, and for various reasons, hesitate to get involved.
According to the Swedish giant, it is the 25-34 age group who would be particularly fond of this audio reading offer, since they would represent no less than 40% of the readership. Obviously, at the moment, it is mainly bestsellers that are stormed by subscribers, but Spotify promises that its algorithm will very soon make it possible to recommend more confidential works, but nevertheless tailored to perfectly suit the subscriber's interests.

Spotify will indeed recommend users' next playlists in function of musical tastes or podcasts listened to on the platform. Subscribers will be able to share their current reading on social networks, while authors will be able to highlight them with personalized cards.
As has been said, the audiobook market in France is still underdeveloped and has real potential. In addition to Spotify, there are obviously other players on the market who are already well established, starting with Audible (Amazon), without forgetting other alternatives, such as Nextory (formerly Youboox) or Audiolib.

Remember that if Spotify includes 12 hours of listening with each monthly subscription, you have to pay 9.99 euros to get 10 hours of ;#8217;additional listening. Also, you should know that Spotify defines the duration needed to listen to a work. The latter will therefore be deducted from your listening time, even if you decide to speed up reading speed.
For example, if you listen to a 5-hour audiobook at a speed set to 2x, even if you finish the audiobook in 2.5 hours, the listening time will be reduced by 5 hours, since that is the length of the book at normal speed.
