In addition to its residential offerings, Starlink already has plans to bring its satellite connection to planes and boats. And now, Elon Musk's service can also connect trains. The company Scottish Starlink reseller Clarus Network Group has announced that it has obtained the necessary certifications to install Starlink antennas on trains. And the first trains to benefit from this innovation are ScotRail's Class 158 trains, which are operating “Far North” line.

Providing good Wi-Fi on trains has always been challenging, but it’s even more challenging on the Far North Line. According to Clarus Network Group, Starlink’s satellite connection is set to “resolve long-standing communication issues in the Scottish Highlands.” Furthermore, installing Starlink antennas on trains will not only provide passengers with a good connection, it will also provide ScotRail with real-time data on its trains.

Game-changing technology

“We are delighted to be partnering with Clarus to trial Starlink on our trains. This collaboration advances our efforts to provide reliable connectivity for passengers, staff and operational systems.”, said Scott Prentice, Director of Strategy and Planning at ScotRail. “By integrating Starlink satellite technology into our networks, we are addressing long-standing communications challenges and improving the overall passenger experience.”

Mike Butler, Director of Rail and Innovation at Clarus, said the new product for trains is a game changer. The company is now positioning itself as an authorized reseller of Starlink products specifically for the railway sector.

On the social network X, Elon Musk dropped a “cool” in reaction to this news.
