In a press release, the State announced that it was implementing measures to reduce taxes on land properties in order to help the agricultural sector in Gard. Following the turbulent Cévennes episodes of 2024, and the aftermath of the numerous climatic disasters, a series of measures already concerned the municipalities recognized as being in a state of natural disaster for the years 2023 and 2024. These now concern “unbuilt” land properties.

A tax reduction on unbuilt properties

To help farmers and take into account the losses incurred, the Gard Departmental Directorate of Public Finances (DDFIP) has decided to grant the owners concerned tax reductions on unbuilt land properties (TFPNB). Loss rates were determined after an investigation conducted by the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM), which relied on feedback from agricultural organizations.

Thus, the following were taken into account: “rates varying between 25% and 65% in 150 municipalities for vines as well as rates of 40 to 56% in 47 municipalities for fruit trees“. The amount of tax relief paid by the State represents a total of nearly €2.7 million in 2024 (compared to €2 million in 2023), including €1.8 million for viticulture.

All partial tax reliefs from TFPNB were issued without any specific action by the farmers concerned, who do not have to file a loss declaration. Each owner will be informed of the amount of the tax relief obtained in the coming days by receiving a “tax relief notice”.
