Agde is currently safe from drought: nearly 500 mm of precipitation was recorded in 2024

These measurements contrast sharply with those of 2023, when only 182 mm of rain were recorded on our coast.

If the Agde hinterland experienced a real storm, short but intense, on the evening of Monday January 27, with gusts of northerly wind at nearly 120 km/h for a few minutes, the night was calmer in Agde, with just welcome showers. Rain in January, which is not the case every year, you will agree, which confirms a trend observed throughout 2024: there will be no shortage of water on our coastline.

A storm and no Mediterranean episode

An amateur meteorologist, Olivier Dubosson, owner of the little train of Cap d'Agde, shared his readings with us, knowing that the only official weather station in the area is at Béziers airport. His rain gauge located in the Intermarché sector recorded 509 mm and a second, positioned at Grau d’Agde, 482 mm. “The past year is characterized by three beautiful non-stormy rainy episodes: January 10 and 11, 2024, when 71 mm fell, April 28, 29 and 30, with 69 mm and November 7, 8 and 9, with 79 mm”, lists Olivier, who speaks “of a very good year in terms of rainfall, which contrasts with the 182 mm of 2023.”

Another notable fact, “the absence of a Mediterranean episode in the town.” Our observer, however, notes the storm that occurred on August 13 on the coast, “very windy and took everyone by surprise, tourists and professionals alike, with quite a few scares and equipment overturned, but apparently without any personal injuries.”

A summer that had a hard time settling in

As for the heat, everyone was able to note that the summer weather took a long time to stabilize – around July 20, not before – and that the hottest day was on Wednesday, August 9, “with peaks between 36 and 38° depending on the neighborhood”, he testifies. And if it is obviously not directly linked to the weather, let us also note the appearance of northern lights in the sky of Agde twice last year, hoping to be able to observe them again in a few months.
