Since their launch in 2021, the AirTag has become an essential accessory for many travelers. In fact, in case of lost luggage, Apple's Bluetooth beacon increases the chances of finding them, thanks to Apple's network-based location system. And currently, the firm is preparing an update that will increase it even further the greater the chance of finding lost luggage.

You will be able to share the location of the AirTag with other people

As you may already know, Apple is currently testing iOS 18.2 in beta, an update that will be rolled out to iPhones later. And according to a report from our colleagues at MacRumors, the list of new features in this version of iOS includes a new feature for the Find My app, which allows you to get the location of lost AirTags.

In essence, this new feature will allow you to share the location of your AirTag with a third party, law enforcement, or an airline. According to MacRumors' explanations, it is possible to generate a link, which can be shared with another person so that they can access the location of the AirTag. This link is valid for one week and expires automatically when the AirTag is returned to its owner. Also, when you send a link, Locate will also let you know how many people have opened it.

Waiting for the new version ?

Otherwise, it should be noted that rumors are already circulating about the AirTag 2. According to a publication by Mark Gurman, a journalist at Bloomberg, this new version could arrive in the first half of 2025. And it is possible that Apple will equip the AirTag 2 with a new chip that would allow for more precise localization. For the moment, this is a rumor to be considered with caution. But, given that the first version of the AirTag came out in 2021, it would make sense for Apple to consider offering a new model.

  • Apple is preparing an iOS update that will introduce a new feature for the Find My app
  • This will allow you to share the location of your AirTag with other people, so that they can help you find your lost item
  • There are also rumors of a new version of the AirTag that could arrive next year
