Aleksandar Kovacevic: “My friends and I were watching Rublev's highlights on my couch while eating Doritos… And then I beat him”

The beautiful story of the American Kovacevic, this week in Montpellier. MAXPPP – JEAN MICHEL MART

The American Aleksandar Kovacevic was obviously in heaven when he spoke at a press conference about his historic victory against the ninth world Andrey Rublev (7-5, 6-4), Saturday February 1st, in the semi-final of the Open Occitanie.

Aleksandar Kovacevic, 102nd in the world and qualified for the final of the Open Occitanie:“Every match I win and the announcer tells me I'm playing the best tennis of my life, I think yes, I guess. I don't know which match was the best but they were all very good. I don't really know what to say, I can't believe I can play like this. We played Rublev… I've been watching him for years. My friends and I would watch his highlights on my couch while eating Doritos and then I beat him… The guy is already a sports legend. So for me, playing and winning like that, I don't even know what to say honestly.”

“Felix kicked my ass a few months ago”

“The final against Auger-Aliassime ? I'm going to prepare for it like the Rublev match, without too much expectation. We'll see, but he kicked my ass a few months ago (in Cincinnati, lost 6-3, 6-1). And yet, I didn't play badly, even if I'm playing much better at the moment, of course. Felix plays incredible tennis and it's quite surprising to me that he hasn't been back in the top 10 for all these years. So it will be a challenge, like it was today. I'm going to give it my all so I don't have any regrets.”
