Fabeille Tardy
“And we… are we essential ?” This is the question posed by the short film by Fabeille Tardy, here director and actress. Through 15 minutes as poignant as they are destabilizing, she puts her finger on the suffering of a generation bruised by the health restrictions linked to Covid-19. Released on April 21, 2022, the film disrupts what Laurent Mucchielli calls “the Doxa of Covid” by serving a good dose of reality, difficult to swallow.
A distressing solitude…
The short film is inspired by true events; we follow the daily life of Mia, a young woman who finds herself alone in her apartment during confinement. From the first scene, we find her sitting in her bathtub, naked, her hair wet, her shower head seems to be crying. Loneliness overshadows everything, accompanied by the melancholy of the piano. In voice-over, Mia begins to tell us her story:
It is difficult to know if Fabeille Tardy is playing her own character, or if she is simply living it. In any case, the authenticity of her acting blends wonderfully with the seriousness of the message. Mia's despair and suffering invade the viewer from the first minutes. Until the end.

“I'm going crazy,” she exclaims. Being locked up, no longer being able to go out, no longer having access to leisure activities, no longer being able to travel or party are degrading her mental health.
The short film also denounces the fact that the jobs destroyed were those of the most precarious, while the richest did not respect the health measures put in place… A few government lies are highlighted to complete the sad picture. There, the story comes to an end and we understand better why the rates of depression and suicide have exploded during this “mental pandemic”…
A final question arises: is it too late ?
