André Dussollier shared Isabelle Adjani's life for two years. A love affair that ended quickly but the two main parties involved are not embarrassed to talk about it. In the columns of Gala this Thursday, December 12, it is the actor who agreed to make some confidences on this subject. He particularly remembered his integration into the conservatory at at the age of 23 and then at the Comédie-Française, where he met Isabelle Adjani. After two years of love, the couple decided to end their relationship. “Two actors together, it's difficult,” he began.

Sharing the life of a public figure can have advantages but also disadvantages and André Dussollier would not say otherwise. “We were young and she had a huge success with La Gifle”, he continued before adding:  “It is difficult, even if you have strong feelings, to sacrifice your professional life”. Thus, the couple had a lot of trouble reconciling private and professional life. “We then tell ourselves that we have time to live the rest”, assured André Dussollier before concluding: “With time, we are more able to balance this kind of thing” . This is not the first time that André Dussollier has made confidences in complete transparency about his relationship with Isabelle Adjani. It was at the Comédie-Française that he met a young woman who would become very important to him. “When we met, I was 27 and she was 19, she was so young…”, he remembered in 2023. A relationship that was set to last but the two actors encountered some difficulties. Mixing private and professional life is not always easy and they had to make a choice. 

André Dussollier had already stated that the success encountered by Isabelle Adjani had been the last straw for their relationship. “It has become impossible to live with this success and to have a real life” , he said. Notoriety can sometimes take up a lot of space and become very complicated to manage. However, André Dussollier had mentioned a relationship he was ready for. “I was very taken with Isabelle. We stayed two years… very close. It was Ondine's time, exactly”, he concluded.

Isabelle Adjani had met with a resounding success that she had not expected at all. “She could no longer have her natural rhythm, had already confided André Dussollier before continuing: “She was probably happy with this success, but it was as if someone had stolen time from her that she needed to become herself”. A time that was precious to Isabelle Adjani and ending this relationship therefore allowed her to find herself again. Although the relationship between the two actors ended, they nevertheless remained very close.
