AnTuTu has once again revealed its ranking of the 10 most powerful smartphones (or at least having obtained the best scores in its performance tests). The opportunity to see which manufacturer takes best advantage of the performance of Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.
The big surprise is that the top 3 is not trusted by Samsung – but rather by players with more modest market shares, notably Red Magic, iQOO and OnePlus. The two most powerful references according to the benchmark application seem to take advantage of the 16 GB of RAM integrated by their manufacturer.
Which doesn't explain everything, because with 12 GB of RAM the OnePlus 12 is clearly ahead of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, also equipped with 12 GB of RAM and including as a bonus an “overclocked” of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
It must be said that, beyond aspects such as the architecture of the motherboard, the revision of its UFS storage or even the type of RAM, questions like the heat dissipation lead all manufacturers to sometimes slightly reduce the performance of the chip – to better offer performance maintenance over time.
Indeed, if the chip heats up too much, it ends up limiting its power on its own. A phenomenon called “throttling” or bridage in French. To our knowledge, the AnTuTu ranking does not allow us to alone test whether performance is maintained over time, which suggests keeping a little distance from this type of ranking. In 4th, 5th and 6th position, we find, without too much surprise, the Galaxy S24 series from Samsung.
Followed in 7th place by the Xiaomi 13 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ) which performs almost as well as the most basic Galaxy S24 (Exynos 2400). Surprisingly we are obviously only talking about the base model here, neither the Xiaomi 13 Pro version, nor the Xiaomi 13T Pro. Here is the complete ranking of the most powerful smartphones according to AnTuTu in February 2024:
The AnTuTu test is one of the benchmarks in benchmarking for smartphones. This benchmark evaluates overall device performance by running a series of tests that simulate real-world, intense operations to push the device to its limits.
The fully automated protocol by the AnTuTu application tests the performance of the CPU (sequential and parallel operations), GPU, RAM, internal storage, but also the user experience, including fluidity and responsiveness of the user interface when performing common tasks.
At the end of this test, a score is awarded for each smartphone, making it easier to make comparisons. Although AnTuTu provides a quantitative measure of performance, these numbers do not always accurately reflect the actual user experience.
For example, a phone with a high AnTuTu score may ultimately not provide a better user experience than a phone with a slightly lower score, due to software optimization or other factors.
We can also note that through the references mentioned in this list, the end user is unlikely to notice major differences in power in the context of daily use.
