Apple Announces New iPad Mini, But Its New Features Are Surprising

While many Internet users were expecting an announcement of new Mac computers, Apple took its community by surprise by ;unveiling a new generation for the iPad Mini.

Apple has just announced the upcoming release of a new iPad Mini, nearly three years after the last model was released. The smallest format of Apple tablets will therefore benefit from a new version available at from 609 euros in France and pre-ordered today for a release date of Wednesday, April 23.

Announced through an official press release, the new iPad Mini takes up the design of previous generations by ignoring a possible “Home” button to present an 8.3-inch screen with “True Tone” technology which allows for better display of colors. The new iPad Mini 2024 is available in four different colors: gray, gold, blue and purple. New accessories with the same colors are also available and the latest Apple Pencil Pro is compatible with the iPad Mini 2024.

An iPad Mini tailored for artificial intelligence

The biggest new feature of this new iPad Mini is its new processor, the A17 Pro chip that was already found on the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023. However, the latter is optimized so that the iPad Mini 2024 can be ready for use the firm's artificial intelligence, Apple Intelligence.

Apple also points out that this is one of its most powerful chips on the market. The A17 Pro chip allows you to enjoy resource-intensive applications and games, such as the title “Zenless Zone Zero” from the Hoyoverse studio. The new iPad Mini 2024 is also compatible with Wi-Fi 6E when its predecessor only supported Wi-Fi 6.

Another new feature: the base storage of the iPad Mini is doubled and goes to 128 GB (compared to 64 GB on the 6th generation released in 2021).

The photo sensors remain unchanged with a main module and a 12 Mpx selfie camera. The battery life is also the same with 10 hours of battery life announced for browsing the web or watching videos.

The new features are clearly not legion, but Apple had already shaken up its iPad Mini during its last generation and this new version therefore mainly brings a gain in power and storage for fans of small tablets and artificial intelligence enthusiasts.
