While generative AI can be extremely useful, it is always necessary to verify the information it produces, as it can be inaccurate. And Apple Intelligence, the AI that Apple offers on iPhones, iPads and Macs, is no exception. For example, the feature that summarizes notifications on the iPhone, in order to save the user time, is already a source of controversy.

Indeed, it sometimes gets mixed up and provides inaccurate information to the user. The BBC, for example, indicates that its information is sometimes misrepresented in the summaries that are generated by Apple's artificial intelligence. In other words, AI can sometimes create fake news, by trying to summarize notifications from a news app like the BBC.

Faced with this controversy, Apple has finally reacted. “Apple Intelligence features are in beta and we are constantly improving them thanks to user feedback”, the firm said, according to the BBC. Apple also reportedly reminded that these notification summaries are optional, meaning that users can turn off the feature. “A software update in the coming weeks will clarify whether the text displayed is a summary provided by Apple Intelligence. We encourage users to report their concerns to us if they see an unexpected notification summary”, Apple also said.

A feature coming to France

At the moment, Apple Intelligence is only available in English and is not available in the EU. However, Apple is already working on a French version of its AI, and versions for other languages. In addition, the company is already preparing the launch of Apple Intelligence in the EU.

“In April, Apple Intelligence features will begin rolling out to iPhone and iPad users in the European Union. These features will include most of the core features of Apple Intelligence, including Writing Tools, Genmoji, a redesigned Siri with enhanced language understanding capabilities, ChatGPT integration, and more,” Apple announced in December.

Hopefully, by April, Apple will have fixed this issue with its notification summaries.

  • The Apple Intelligence feature that summarizes notifications for the user sometimes produces inaccurate information
  • And when it deals with media notifications, this can lead to the display of fake news
  • Apple indicates that the feature is in beta and that it will improve over time
  • At the same time, the firm is preparing an update for this feature
  • Apple Intelligence is not yet available in the EU, but the firm is already preparing a deployment in our countries
