Apple is gradually adopting OLED screens. As a reminder, this type of screen, which allows for better image quality, is already present on iPhones. This year, the firm also launched its first iPad Pros with OLED screens. And the next step would be the launch of MacBooks with OLED screens instead of the technologies currently used by its laptops.

OLED MacBooks in 2026 or 2027 ?

The rumors on this subject have just been corroborated by the company Trendforce, which, in a publication, indicates that Apple should launch its first OLED MacBooks between 2026 and 2027. But clearly, this shift is being prepared now, since the firm has already started to encourage its suppliers to invest in this technology.

Currently, there are already a few laptops with OLED screens. And Trendforce predicts that the market for laptops equipped with OLED screens could increase in 2025 and reach 6 million units. In addition, the fact that Apple could launch OLED MacBooks could encourage more brands to adopt this technology, or to offer it on more products.

OLED screen: what are the concrete advantages ?

On its website, Apple discusses the advantages of the “Ultra Retina XDR” OLED screen of the latest iPad Pros. “OLED technology offers an incredibly high contrast ratio and high resolution. Without a backlight, OLED emits light through each pixel, allowing for a thinner screen,” , it reads. Otherwise, OLED screens could also reduce power consumption, and therefore extend the battery life of a device, under certain conditions: when dark mode is used. Indeed, on this technology, pixels that display dark colors can consume less power.

But for now, caution is advised, since Trendforce is not an official source. In any case, it is very likely that the first MacBooks with OLED screens will be MacBook Pros. And according to our colleagues at MacRumors, Apple should collaborate with Samsung and LG to develop these screens.
