In 2005 Google integrated “ Maps ” within its search engine, becoming the first navigation application in the world. A little over 10 years ago, in 2012, Apple followed in the footsteps of the digital giant and launched its own navigation service “ Apple Plans ”.< /strong>
Although the application has since become a reference for iPhone, iPad and Mac users, it remains software separate from the search engine. Like many native Apple services, Maps was only available on Apple brand devices. A limitation which offered very great integration within the Apple ecosystem.
But the Cupertino company has just made an important, historic decision for its service. Apple Plans is now available directly from the web, just like its eponymous competitor at Google.
In a press release published by Apple this Wednesday, the Apple brand explains this choice. “Now users can get driving and walking directions; find great places and helpful information, including photos, hours, ratings and reviews. »
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000The Apple Maps web service is available in English on Safari and Google Chrome on Macs and iPads. When it comes to Windows PCs, Apple also supports Microsoft's Edge. Apple promises that many languages should arrive in the coming weeks.
The arrival of this new service 48 hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics does not does not appear to be a simple coincidence. While millions of tourists are on their way to the French capital, they will need to find their way between the grand Haussmannian boulevards.
Let's hope for Apple that the launch of Maps on the web is more successful than that of the application itself on the iPhone. Indeed, in 2012, when this new native service arrived, Apple encountered several problems, particularly with GPS. The service then received numerous criticisms, even forcing Apple to speak publicly for one of its first crises since the transfer of power between Steve Jobs and Tim Cook.
Since those failed beginnings, Apple has significantly improved the user experience on Apple Plans. The service is now an essential part of the user experience on iOS, just like Safari or Apple Music.
