If you are a Crédit Agricole customer and want to continue using Apple Pay, you will have to get your hands dirty. The bank has announced that Apple's payment service may soon stop working if you do not update your bank card. Some customers receive an email, others a notification on their iPhone via the “My Bank” application. The message is clear: without this update, payments via Apple Pay could soon become impossible.

The reason for this update? A technical development of “tokens”, these digital tokens used during mobile payment transactions. Crédit Agricole, concerned about the security of its customers' transactions, wants to ensure that all Apple Pay users have the latest protections in force.

Not all customers are affected at the same time. The bank is rolling out this update in successive waves throughout the summer. Customers are therefore advised to wait for the official notification before undertaking the update procedure.

For those who received the warning, the procedure is simple but requires a few steps. You must first delete the bank card saved in Apple Pay, then re-add it. This operation generates a new token, compliant with the latest security standards.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

How to update ?

Deleting a card can be done in just a few clicks in the iPhone Cards app. Simply go to the card menu, then to “Card details”, and finally select “Delete card”. Once this step has been validated, the user can immediately re-add their card by clicking on the “+” button.

Crédit Agricole wants to reassure: this update does not change its customers' payment habits. Using Apple Pay will remain the same once the process is complete. However, the bank is remaining tight-lipped about the long-term future of the feature.

This reservation may be explained by recent regulatory changes in Europe. The Digital Markets Act (DMA) stipulates that Apple can no longer impose Apple Pay as the sole mobile payment solution on iOS in Europe. This new situation could shake up the mobile payments landscape in the years to come.

  • Crédit Agricole is asking its customers to update their bank cards on Apple Pay this summer.
  • Updating involves removing and then re-adding your card in the Wallet app.
  • This operation is necessary to update the “tokens&#8221 security and keep the Apple Pay service functional.
