While the public’s attention is focused on the September keynote, during which Apple will present its new iPhones, Apple is also reportedly preparing a series of new Macs. And among the models that will arrive this year, there will be a new version of the Mac mini, according to a recent article published by Mark Gurman, a journalist at Bloomberg. In addition, he claims that according to his sources, the 2024 Mac mini will have a completely new design.
The journalist explains that this will be the first major change to the design of the Mac mini since 2010. This new version, in addition to having an updated technical sheet, would also have a size much smaller than that of the current models. The dimensions of the new Mac mini would be close to those of the Apple TV boxes. This new Mac mini could be narrower and longer than the current models, but it could, on the other hand, be taller.
As for connectivity, Mark Gurman indicates that the new Mac mini could have three USB-C ports on the back, an HDMI output, and a power port. Apple would design this new product as a sort of iPad Pro contained in a small box, and without a screen. Furthermore, this new Mac mini would be cheaper to produce, but it is not certain, for the moment, that it will be sold for less.
Like the latest iPad Pro, the new Mac mini is said to use the M4 chip. And Apple is also said to be offering a more powerful version that would use the M4 Pro chip. This new model would be part of a whole new generation of Macs that would be optimized for artificial intelligence. In addition to this new Mac mini, Apple could also release new iMacs and new MacBook Pros, equipped with the M4 chip, before the end of the year.

In any case, Apple's goal would be to have a complete range of Macs that work with its M4 chip. But of course, for the moment, these are only rumors. And therefore, caution is still required. In any case, it is very likely that Apple wants to take advantage of the general public's interest in generative artificial intelligence to boost its Mac sales.
As a reminder, in June, Apple presented Apple Intelligence, a series of new features based on AI. This is compatible with all Macs that use an Apple Silicon chip (M1 or newer). Otherwise, it is also possible that Apple is trying to capture a portion of consumers who will have to replace their PCs with Windows 10. As a reminder, Microsoft will no longer support this operating system from October 2025.
