As the iPhone 16 series presentation approaches, the analyst firm Trendforce publishes an article that discusses the probable new features, as well as the prices of the new iPhones. And unfortunately, it does not exclude the possibility that the iPhone 16 series models will cost more than the 2023 models. But the good news is that the increase should not be significant. Indeed, if the cost of manufacturing an iPhone increases due to an increase in the price of memory chips, Apple should remain cautious.

A price increase is possible, but it would be moderate

“TrendForce suggests that the USD price of the four new models launching this year will likely remain at the same level as the iPhone 15 series or see a slight increase to balance the rising costs while boosting sales and maintaining profitability,” the publication reads. Furthermore, in order to mitigate the psychological impact of a price increase, Apple could increase the storage memory available on the base model of the iPhone 16 Pro, which would therefore have a minimum of 256 GB.

As a reminder, Apple's strategy today is to push its customers to buy the most expensive models, which have more generous technical specifications. Normally, all models in the iPhone 16 series should be compatible with Apple Intelligence. However, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should have a more powerful processor. And other sources suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max should also have larger screens, compared to the previous generation, as well as a more powerful camera. Indeed, on the new Pro models, Apple would offer a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, instead of the 12-megapixel sensor of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple would expect an increase in sales

Trendforce's publication also mentions the production of the iPhone 16 series. According to it, the Cupertino company plans to produce a total of 86.7 million units in 2024, which would correspond to an increase of 8%. Thus, the company would expect its new AI-based features to boost iPhone sales. Moreover, Trendforce believes that this year, Apple has the possibility of shipping more smartphones than its rival Samsung.
