Après l’incendie volontaire dans un parking souterrain d’une résidence de Balaruc-les-Bains le 21 décembre dernier, les dégâts sont importants.

“Due to water damage, the media library is currently closed. We will keep you informed of the reopening.” This is the message that users of the Balaruc-les-Bains media library have been able to see posted since Friday, January 3 on the front door. “The year is definitely starting as it ended for the establishment, which had already been invaded by smoke and soot, following the fire that broke out in the basement on December 21. The current disaster is the consequence of the first (the wastewater column melted)“, writes Sète Agglopôle on its social networks. The media library is not the only one to suffer the consequences of this incident. What happened ?

Arson, an investigation underway

On December 21, around 5 p.m., a fire was reported in the basement of the Sévigné thermal building, located along the Passage des Bains in Balaruc-les-Bains. According to the initial elements of the investigation, it was a deliberate fire of rubbish. A police investigation is currently underway and a complaint has been filed by the property manager. While smoke and soot invaded the floors of the Sévigné thermal building, they also spread through the basement to the floors of the adjoining building, the Les Bains residence. Fortunately, most of the residents of these apartments dedicated to thermalism were absent. Around ten people were evacuated via the large ladder, some of them equipped with oxygen masks.

During the incident, Sévigné thermale suffered the most significant damage. With a damaged electrical system, as well as the waste water column, which melted on some parts and whose PVC shrank on others. Thus causing several water damages on the floors, the water having infiltrated up to the false ceiling of the media library. Hence its closure until further notice. The situation may not be resolved for several weeks.

We have had intrusions into the garages for four years”

“I have been mobilized on the case since December 21 when I went on site, assures Arnaud Combalat, the manager of the trustee SARL agence le Pasteur for the two collective complexes. With the holidays, it is not easy to launch the necessary assessments to then carry out the major works”. He specifies: “We were able to restore electricity on all floors except the first floor, the ground floor, the basement and the garage gate. The boiler and the VMC have been repaired. A specialized company was contacted to clean up the building due to the fumes. As for water damage on the upper floors, we will discover it as we go along because 80% of the owners were not there,” continues the person who contacted the 250 owners of the residence (and 80 garages) by mail. “This is the first time we have had a major fire,” adds the manager of the trusteeship, but we have had break-ins in the garages for four years and the fire extinguishers have been regularly emptied for a year. We have already filed four or five complaints about this.”
