  • Discover how Ary Abittan approaches his legal case in his new show despite the controversy.

In October 2021, Ary Abittan had made headlines when he was accused by a 23-year-old woman of sexual assault. She had brought complaint against him, claiming that he had forced anal intercourse on him. Indicted in this case, he was finally placed under the status of simple assisted witness a few months later.

The two investigating judges in charge of the case had highlighted the absence of “serious or concordant evidence“. They had nevertheless recognized the complainant's post-traumatic stress “indisputable“. Finally, in April 2024, the actor finally obtained a dismissal in this case. He therefore made the decision to return to the stage with a new show called Authentic.

Ary Abittan would mention his legal case in his show

Moreover, he should normally be on Friday January 25, 2025 at the Barrière casino in Bordeaux. But this performance is being called into question as a feminist collective, Les Collages féministes Bordeaux, has called for the show to be cancelled. “We no longer want culture to serve as a stepping stone for rapists and aggressors“, we can thus read in a press release while the actor of What have we done to God ? éwould evoke the legal case in which he was immersed in his show.

Without deprogramming, we invite you all [sic] to meet in front of the Théâtre du casino Barrière on January 25th at 19 hours to make the voices of victims of sexual violence heard“, is also indicated in the press release.

Ary Abittan uses “this case to make people laugh”

The activists specify that they are particularly annoyed by an element concerning Ary Abittan's show. “He pushes indecency to his height by using this case to make people laugh. By making fun of it in his show, he capitalizes on the trauma inflicted on his victims, all this with the support of several theaters across France. Including the Thééâtre du casino Barrière in Bordeaux.”

For the time being, the establishment that is to host the comedian's show has not wished to react to this controversy.
