In l'Homme seul, Frédéric Beigbeder devotes a gripping book to his father. While he had already evoked his father in the pages ofUn roman français in 2009, in this new novel he paints a portrait of his father, born in Pau and buried in Guéthary and thus signs his best book. The 59-year-old writer evokes with gravity a man who is both free and complex and who has above all cultivated indifference for his children.
Invited this Tuesday, January 7, on the show of Léa Salamé on France Inter, Frédéric Beigbeder spoke about the writing of this book, the publication of which has particular importance for him. And for good reason, his relationship with his father has always been tinged with incomprehension and bitterness.

À the question of Léa Salamé on his vices, the novelist answered bluntly: “No more alcohol, no more drugs at all and as much sex as possible with my wife“, he confided. A response that greatly amused Léa Salamé, caught up in her own game. Embarrassed, the host then said: “And love in all that?“. Frédéric Beigbeder then let go: “It's the only reason to live”.
Since 2011, Frédéric Beigbeder has been living the perfect love with Lara Micheli, 25 years his junior. If the writer regularly appears in the media, his wife, she, prefers to remain discreet. Photographer and former model, she has managed to transform the author's tumultuous life. Now, the novelist seems to be a new man devoted to his family.
Concerning his romantic relationship with his partner, he had confided in 2023 in the columns of Gala : “With her, I have a more balanced and happy life, she keeps my feet on the ground… by making fun of me. No marriage can last without humor. I need structure, otherwise life is chaos“.
To maintain his relationship, the novelist does not hesitate to take charge of household chores. Thus, he does not dread going shopping or picking up his children at school: “I also love loading and emptying the dishwasher . It's the best antidepressant. I recommend it, it's like taking a Xanax!”, he concluded, with a hint of humor.
