Portuguese international from Béziers (Pro D2) Samuel Marques has been summoned to the disciplinary committee for his behavior during the rugby night, the National Rugby League (LNR) announced on Friday, December 20

Samuel Marques, 35 years old and having played for Pau and Toulouse, has been summoned for the session on January 15 due to his insulting behavior towards a hostess on the sidelines of the gala evening on September 23.

Named best Pro D2 player of the 2023/2024 season during this ceremony at the Olympia, the scrum-half (22 caps) had, according to the daily newspaper l'Equipe, been aggressive towards a hostess during the reception who had followed.

Complaining that the hostess's stand did not serve alcohol and himself drunk, he allegedly threw a glass in her face.

Commission seized by the LNR

If no complaint had been filed by the hostess, the disciplinary and regulations committee of the League had been seized by the president of the LNR René Bouscatel.

On Monday, another Béziers player, second row Hans Nkinsi, was sentenced to a total of one year in prison for domestic violence, with the revocation of part of the suspended sentence of his previous conviction for similar acts.

His teammate Béziers, the New Zealand three-quarter center Taleta Tupuola, had himself received a 14-month suspended prison sentence on November 13, also for domestic violence.

The day after Tupuola's conviction, the club announced its intention to reinstate him in its squad, considering in a press release that “justice has been served”. The New Zealander has since played again, on December 6 in Brive and on December 13 for the reception of Montauban, and is a starter this Friday against Mont-de-Marsan.

AS Béziers, now in Pro D2 after having dominated French rugby for a long time in the 1970s and 1980s, has just been bought by an Irish investment fund.
