At the Nîmes market halls, the Gard region is celebrated through its farmers

An exhibition to see during your wanderings in the city's central market halls until January 15.

Nîmes Métropole, in partnership with the Gard Chamber of Agriculture, is showcasing its local farmers as part of the exhibition “Racines” au coeur de la terre, created by the artist Karima M, in the central aisles of the Nîmes market halls.

Above all, it is a spotlight through photographic portraits of seventeen farmers who shape and preserve the land of our agglomeration. This exhibition is the result of more than eight months of reflection and work initiated by photographer Karima Mohamed and supported by Nîmes Métropole.

“This exhibition invites the public to delve into the heart of our agricultural heritage through faces that embody the soul and wealth of our territory”, indicated Franck Proust, president of Nîmes Métropole, during the opening of the exhibition.

Resilience and know-how

With her artistic sensitivity, Karima M highlights the beauty of our local agriculture and the crucial importance of our food sovereignty. Our agricultural land is an integral part of our DNA and the wealth that makes us famous around the world. This exhibition is a vibrant tribute to those who feed us, these portraits capture the passion, resilience and know-how of these women and men who cultivate our local identity. Each photo tells a story, a commitment that is forged day after day to protect and promote our agricultural heritage.

The exhibition “Roots in the Heart of the Earth” is on display at the Halles de Nîmes until January 15, 2025.
