The new MRI at the Saint-Louis clinic in Ganges was inaugurated by Health Minister Yannick Neuder. Still high expectations for the reopening of the maternity ward.

It is difficult to avoid the subject of maternity for the Minister of Health, visiting the Saint-Louis clinic in Ganges after a trip to Montpellier. The last baby to be born in Ganges was born on December 19, 2022, and since then, the activity has been “suspended”, with women in labor being sent to Montpellier. Two groups are still working in the hope that the case will not be definitively buried. Despite the insistence of the police that the fifteen people making this claim move away from the minister's sight, he could not avoid the subject.

Here, Yannick Neuder comes to inaugurate a brand new MRI, to the great satisfaction of the group of radiologists who, since its opening, already welcome between 25 and 30 patients per day.“We have been working on this project for a long time,” recalls Dr. Stéphane Lust. “For monitoring new pathologies, for joint problems, for cancers. We now have a complete technical platform,” rejoices the doctor, although with this slight reservation regarding a daily operation that is not yet optimal due to the shortage of caregivers.

The authorization for the MRI was granted by exemption by the ARS. The Regional Health Agency, in other words the State, believes in the future of what the minister calls a “small primary care unit”. A small unit that will be reborn since the building permit for the Saint-Louis 2 clinic, or rather Saint-Louis Cévennes as the mayor announced, was filed in December. Estimated cost for the Cap Santé group, owner: €40 million, of which €11 million will come from the State. This new establishment promises, of course, a maternity ward.

“We are not in a medical desert,” assures Michel Fratissier, mayor of Ganges. “We have a good quality of care, and the fact that it is provided by a private group is not a dirty word. Cap Santé provides a public service and does not sort patients”. Lamine Garbi, head of this group of 16 clinics in Hérault, adds: “Here, the continuity of care is a strategic subject”,before telling journalists about his difficulty in recruiting a whole range of caregivers, including six gynecologists, who could provide on-call service at the maternity ward. “We have doctors who are interested, but who tell us “call me back when the team is set up” and, a few weeks later, they are no longer on the market. The new clinic will have its maternity ward, but I am factual, for it to work, we will have to find the doctors…”

Proximity models

And Yannick Neuder in all this ? A doctor but also a local elected official, the minister is pleased to see many elected officials gathered around the ribbon cutting. “I see that everyone is on board together, and I believe in collective intelligence to find solutions. These are models of proximity and when I said, when I took office, that I wanted to territorialize my actions, it was not a language element. The greatest wealth of our healthcare system is our caregivers.” On condition that we find them.
