A tragic loss. On Friday, January 3, 2024, Jeff Baena's lifeless body was found at his home in Los Angeles. Aubrey Plaza's husband's assistant was the one who was the first to call for help after discovering him inert. Despite their intervention, they could do nothing to bring the screenwriter and director back to life. The medical examiner said a few days later that Jeff Baena had ended his life by hanging when he was 47 years old.
Faced with such a tragedy, Aubrey Plaza initially preferred to remain silent. Her family had simply declared to Deadline that they were devastated by the tragic and brutal loss of her husband and that they wished for her privacy to be respected in order to begin their mourning. Finally, on Monday, January 6, 2024, she made the decision to speak out through a press release.

As a reminder, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena had been a couple since 2011 and were married in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The actress had also made some revelations about this union on the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2021.
“A lot happened during COVID for me. Yes, we got married. It was a beautiful story“, she had declared at first before evoking the originality of their union.
“We got a little bored one night. We got married and I'll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That's right, look it up. We were in lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially at my house. My husband started dying his shirts and when I say dying his shirts, I mean 50 shirts a day“, she added.
