Baby found dead in trash bag in wilderness: Jogger's horrifying discovery of baby's body

The body of an infant was found by a jogger on December 30, 2024 in the Loire. An investigation has been opened. 

The lifeless body of an infant abandoned in a garbage bag was discovered Monday by a jogger in Mably (Loire), learned AFP from the Roanne prosecutor's office. She immediately contacted the emergency services and an investigation was opened.

“The naked body of the newborn girl was in a garbage bag, deposited at the edge of the greenway that runs alongside the Loire Canal,” Roanne prosecutor Xavier Laurent told AFP, confirming information from the website of the weekly Le Pays.

Autopsy scheduled

Medical examinations and an autopsy have been ordered by the public prosecutor's office to determine whether the girl was “born alive” and in what state of health. “While waiting to determine whether the child was born alive and viable before dying, the investigation is being conducted to determine the causes of death,” the prosecutor explained to the local newspaper.

No information was immediately available on his identity, nor that of his parents, the same source said. The autopsy will take place on Tuesday, the local press reported.
