Five young humanists with beautiful eloquence

#MONTPELLIER –Lana, Théo, Eloa, Solvei and Victor took turns declaiming, this Thursday, January 23, 2025, a powerful speech on the theme of humanity as part of the regional eloquence competition organized by the Fondation Groupe Dépêche in partnership with the rectorate. Thanks to their pleading, these five high school students hope to win a place in the final, on February 7, 2025 at the Cordeliers theater in Albi. The jury had the difficult task of deciding between these five talents. Montpellier being the last selection for the academy after Perpignan, Béziers and Nîmes, only 5 candidates out of 22 will be selected for the grand finale. But no matter, they all carried with depth and ingenuity the values that constitute humanity.

Julien Plantier candidate in the municipal elections

#NÎMES – The race to succeed Jean-Paul Fournier, LR mayor of Nîmes since 2001, accelerated on Thursday, January 23, 2025 with the declaration of candidacy of his current first deputy, Julien Plantier, for the municipal election of 2026. At 39 years old, the one who has been elected since 2008, says he has made the choice of “responsibility and transparency”. But this announcement on social networks annoys in his own camp where the president of Nîmes Métropole, Franck Proust, also embodies the legacy of Jean-Paul Fournier. The mayor himself described this candidacy as “premature”, regretting that Julien Plantier did not wait for arbitration. This fratricidal fight could favor the adversaries, starting with the RN.

Today's figure: 176

#OCCITANIE – This is the number of hospitalizations for influenza in the region in one week. Some 850 people also came to the emergency room for influenza-like illness, an epidemic that the ARS Occitanie describes as intense “with indicator levels higher than the epidemic peaks of the two previous seasons”, particularly among those under 15. In fact, the vaccination campaign has been extended until February 28.

First tensions during the elections

#CHAMBERS OF AGRICULTURE –We will not go so far as to say that the elections to the chambers of agriculture are taking place in a deleterious climate in Occitanie, but tensions are nevertheless arising during this vote which will close on January 31, 2025 at midnight, and for which farmers and retirees can vote by mail, or electronically. Thus, the Rural Coordination of the departments of Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales and Hérault raised its voice at the beginning of the week by deploring that Jacques Gravegeal, “president ex officio of the Syndicate of producers of wine from the Pays d'Oc called for voting for the FDSEA lists using the header and the email address file of the union”. And to regret “a distortion of competition harmful to the proper information of voters”, while asking for “a right of reply intended for all farmers and winegrowers in the region”. On Thursday evening, Jacques Gravegeal, invited to react, had not responded to our requests.
