The season starts on the same basis as the end of the previous one. Opposed to the number 6 seed of the Brisbane tournament, Alejandro Tabilo (23rd in the world), Benjamin Bonzi (75th) started his season with a superb victory after a big fight of 2 hours 51 minutes in three sets, [8] 6-7, 7-6 [5], 6-4. The Nîmes player will face another player from Chile, the 35th in the world, Nicolas Jarry.

Bonzi is therefore still riding high on an exceptional end to the season, during which he won the Metz tournament, which allowed him to return to the top 100 and qualify directly for the Australian Open draw, from January 12 to 26 in Melbourne.

Arthur Cazaux on the courts this Tuesday

On the French side, Arthur Rinderknech (59th) lost his first round match. Facing the Japanese Yoshito Nishioka, world No. 69 and having gone through the qualifications, the Frenchman lost in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

This Tuesday, Bonzi will not be the only Frenchman on the courts. Montpellier's Arthur Cazaux (63rd), directly qualified for the main draw, will face the American Sebastian Korda (22nd) in the first round.

Gaël Monfils (55th) will have to beat the American Nishesh Basavareddy (138th) to advance to the second round, while Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (31st) will face the Australian Nick Kyrgios, who is making his big comeback after many months of injury.
