Between Rennes and Portugal, Anne and Julien’s long walk to raise awareness of disability and ecology passed through Sète

Having left Rennes since April 4, 2024 with the ambition of traveling around the world, Anne Roblin and Julien Gauttier have been passing through Sète since Saturday, January 25 and will leave again in the coming days.

Julien and Anne trained for two years before the big departure. A lot of hiking, especially thanks to a chair adapted for Anne, a joëlette. But you need at least two people to hold this chair, so it was not an option for their epic duo. Julien therefore trained in running and weight training. And there they were, on April 4, 105 kg divided between two carts pulled by Julien, while pushing Anne's wheelchair.

“We took our trip because we needed to get some fresh air, to see nature”, begins Anne. They ride on cycle paths or along the edges of departmental roads. Always careful, with their yellow vests, so as not to surprise motorists. “We do this in a sporty way, even in a wheelchair it's possible. But it's also with an ecological conscience, we pick up plastic waste on the side of the road, to then throw it in the trash”, Julien explains.

The United States then a book

Around 1,350 kilometers on the clock today, the lovers are far from having finished their journey. “We don't put any pressure on ourselves, we do it at our own pace. The first goal is to go to Portugal, then the United States.” Anne and Julien always specify that their trip is structured: “we contact the mayors when we arrive in a new town, sometimes they tell us where to sleep. We have two kitty funds (*), filled by people who support our project, or our partner, when we succeed in the challenges he gives us.” The couple's ambitions don't stop there, since they also want to film part of their journey and write a book.
