Mr. Garon, an economics professor, was elected in the 2021 general election. He was designated Bloc Québécois critic for industries and entrepreneurship, national revenue and green finance.
During his term, Mr. Garon introduced Bill C-290 to protect whistleblowers. He argued at the time that it also protects democracy and contributes to the sound management of public funds. The legislation was adopted by the House of Commons and is currently before the Senate.
Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet praised his MP’s “exceptional contribution” to caucus and parliamentary proceedings, “his extraordinary eloquence” and “his commitment to sovereignty.”
Jean-Denis Garon said he will remain an MP until the end of his term.
