On December 29, 2024, a group of hikers discovered human bones in the wild, in the Hautes-Alpes.

Enough to make this hike sinisterly memorable. Walkers discovered human bones near the town of Laragne-Montéglin in the Hautes-Alpes on Sunday, reports BFMTV.

Frozen in the ground

According to our colleagues, the hikers found these bones in the frozen ground they were walking on. Specifying that it would be a human skull and a long bone, probably a femur. Also next to it was some fabric, probably a piece of clothing that the deceased person was wearing.

An investigation opened

A discovery as macabre as it was mysterious. Walkers reported the facts and criminal identification technicians, or TIC, from the national gendarmerie went to the scene. Our colleagues specify that this Monday, the area was inspected with the help of the mountain group of the gendarmerie and a drone pilot.

“The investigation is entrusted to the Gap gendarmerie company as well as to the IRCGN investigation unit to date the bones and find possible DNA”, the public prosecutor of Gap, Marion Lozac'hmeur, tells our colleagues.
