Bouygues Telecom to launch new Bbox: a serious rival for the Freebox Ultra ?

© Tino

Thursday, January 16. Mark this date in your diary. This is when Bouygues Telecom will present a new Bbox. This year, this device is not so mysterious, since an unexpected leak revealed its main features. And for good reason, an Internet user received the device by mistake! Let's take stock.

What we already know about this Bbox

We can therefore already say that this model will be Wi-Fi 7 compatible, which puts it in competition with the Freebox Ultra released in 2024. It therefore displays 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency bands, if we are to believe the leaks spotted online. It will also have 3 Ethernet sockets, one of which is compatible with 10 Gb/s, the other two running at 1 Gb.s.

At first glance, this new box could be reserved for customers who have subscribed to the Ultym premium subscriptions. There is therefore uncertainty regarding prices. Is Bouygues planning to revise its price list upwards?

A rival for the Freebox Ultra ?

Let's first recall the essentials: the Freebox Ultra offers a symmetrical speed of 8 Gb/s and an enticing bouquet of streaming services that offers the best of the entertainment giants, including Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Universal+ and Canal+.

Of course, all this implies a fairly expensive offer. You have to count 50 euros per month for the first year, then 60 euros after the first twelve months. But it also allows you to save money if you are fond of streaming: around 230 euros per month for these different platforms.

One of our journalists tested this offer and was not entirely satisfied. The main reasons for this were the poor Wi-Fi and the finicky streaming services. He explained:

The situation got worse when the streaming services started imposing their conditions. To avoid advertising on Netflix and Disney+, I had to pay extra. The bill has risen to €60.49 per month, with a view to €70.49 after the first year. We are moving dangerously far from the initial promise.

Could Bouygues Telecom try to compete with this Premium offer by offering even more attractive prices?? Answer in a few days.

What to remember:

  • Bouygues Telecom will present a new Bbox on January 16
  • It will offer Wi-Fi 7
  • Its price list is still unknown
