According to an IFOP survey, 30% of French women of childbearing age said in September 2022 that they did not want children. The Pope even said in January 2022: “Dogs and cats are taking the place of children. This denial of fatherhood and motherhood demeans us, takes away our humanity.”

In the United States, this trend has a name: “double income, no kids, with a dog” (two incomes, no children, but a dog) and can be summed up as “no kids, one dog” (no children, one dog). On TikTok, this lifestyle is presented as the new American dream.

The reasons for this choice can be varied: personal or ecological convictions, financial constraints, desire for a different lifestyle, or simply a deep love for animals.

In France, there are 75 million pets , including 16.6 million cats and 9.9 million dogs. Nearly one in two households has a pet.

According to an online survey by the Woopets website in 2020, 66% of respondents say that their pet is their primary source of daily love, far ahead of their spouse (13%).
