After the discovery of a first leg, a fisherman found one a second in the same Caen canal, located à Blainville-sur-Irne, in Calvados.

A macabre discovery. On Tuesday July 30, 2024, a fisherman found a new human leg in Blainville-sur-Irne (Calvados), in the Caen Canal, reports Ouest-France. “We have no information on the age, sex and origin of this person,” declared Caen prosecutor Joël Garrigue. Nearly 200 police officers combed the area to find the rest of the body of the unknown individual.

The two organs were directed to the National Gendarmerie Criminal Research Institute (IRCGN) in the Paris region for analysis. The results are eagerly awaited by investigators who have not been able to confirm whether the legs belonged to a man or a woman. “We have not yet received the results. It can take a few days because in a case like this, several departments work together,” explained the gendarmerie.

No disappearances reported

According to the Caen prosecutor, it is difficult to determine “how long these legs spent in the water”. When they were recovered, they were not wearing any pieces of clothing, indicates Actu.fr. In the Caen Canal, the search continues with the implementation of aerial, maritime, underwater and land devices. No disappearances have been reported to the authorities recently, indicates the magistrate.
