“We lose acuity”

Keratoconus,“it is a congenital, genetic disease that is quite widespread (…) We are born with a cornea that is a little more pointed, the optic nerve corrects that and, at a certain point, stops correcting this imperfection and so we lose a lot of acuity, we do not lose our sight, but we lose a lot of acuity”.

According to the Toulouse University Hospital, “keratoconus (from the Greek kerato, horn, cornea and konos, cone) is a classically non-inflammatory disease characterized by thinning and deformation of the cornea. This results in a deterioration of vision, more or less significant”.

“Until – 17”

Due to his vision problem, the host of Dancing with the Stars cannot go out without his correction: “To give you an idea, without my lenses, I reached up to -13 and -17 in my eyes (…) You can't see anything anymore, everything is completely blurry, you can't go out without someone holding your hand if you don't have your lenses”, he shares in front of Pablo Mira in Ton Quotidien.

Camille Combal emphasizes that she has already undergone a first transplant on her left eye and still has to have surgery on her right. “I'm not on the waiting list yet, because after that there's a year where you almost have to take a year sabbatical… You can’t stand the light too much anymore, so there’s this whole side where you can’t do that job anymore.” Despite the constraints, the host stressed that he is not in any danger of losing his sight.
