The relatives of a journalist making a documentary on humanitarian assistance for victims of the war raging in Gaza have lost contact with him, says a member of his team.
According to Zaheera Soomar, Mansour Shouman has not heard from him since January 21.
Contacts told Ms. Soomar that the citizen journalist was reportedly seen at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. It would then be directed to Rafah.
Three witnesses told the team supporting Mr. Shouman that he was captured on Tuesday by members of the Israeli army. However, this has not been confirmed.
Global Affairs Canada says it is aware of the disappearance of a Canadian in Gaza. The agency says it is monitoring the situation closely and is in contact with Mr. Shouman's relatives.
Mr. Shouman, who previously worked as an oil and gas consultant in Calgary, is the father of five children who left Gaza last year.
Ms. Soomar said that Mansour Shouman felt that filming the war in Gaza and its ramifications was a duty.
