Car bomb kills 20: What we know about the attack in northern Syria

A car bomb explosion killed at least 20 people on Monday in Manbij, in northern Syria, in what is the deadliest attack in the country since the fall of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, the new Syrian presidency announced. A previous report provided by civil security indicated that 15 people were dead, 14 women and a man working as farm laborers, and 15 women were injured.

Perpetrators prosecuted

The Syrian presidency said those responsible would be prosecuted and held accountable. This is the second attack in three days in this town located about thirty kilometers from the Turkish border. No one has claimed responsibility immediately. On Saturday in Manbij, a car bomb explosion killed four civilians and injured nine others, including children, the Syrian news agency SANA reported.

In December, Turkish-backed groups recaptured Manbij from the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by the Kurdish YPG militia.
