Radio-Canada obtained the chapter on Laval from the final report of the Charbonneau commission.

This chapter, which details the shenanigans of former mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, had been redacted for eight years. Radio-Canada obtained it following a request for access to documents from the Bibliothèque et Archives nationaux du Québec (BAnQ).

The BAnQ will also provide access to the document on its digital platform, indicates the institution.

Wednesday , the National Assembly had also unanimously adopted a motion to give the public the entire report of the commission.

This motion was based on a public outing of a former investigator and editor of the commission.

It is not normal that Quebecers – they cannot have full access to the Commission's report. Of course, all the wrongdoing that has been brought to light is starting to become a thing of the past, but there are lessons to be learned. We must not forget them, declared André Noël on Twitter.

The chapter on Laval was redacted due to legal proceedings. However, the proceedings ended with the Supreme Court's refusal to hear the appeal of the deposed construction magnate, Tony Accurso, who headed to prison last July.

At the end of a second trial, Tony Accurso was found guilty in 2018 of fraud, abuse of trust, corruption and conspiracy by the Court of Quebec.

These offenses stemmed from his participation in a system of fraud and corruption between 1996 and 2010 in Laval.

The judge then said that this was one of the worst examples of municipal corruption [ to have] found himself before a Canadian court.

The scheme in question involved the payment by companies of bribes to elected officials, including the& #x27;former mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, in exchange for public contracts.

More details to follow.
