Seriously injured while skiing

#PYRENEES-ORIENTALES –A 10-year-old child was transported to the neurological department of Montpellier University Hospital on Sunday, February 2, 2025 after a skiing accident in the Angles resort in the Pyrénées-Orientales. He hit a wooden barrier near the blue slope he was descending early in the afternoon. Suffering from a head injury, he was initially evacuated by helicopter to Perpignan hospital before being taken to Montpellier hospital. On Sunday, January 26, a 51-year-old woman died on a black run in Font-Romeu, also in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Today's figure: 6.7 million euros

#MONTPELLIER – In millions of euros, the amount of fines collected in 2023 (it should be the same in 2024) by the automatic license plate reading cars that track unpaid parking in the streets of Montpellier. It was 2.5 million euros in 2020. In 2018, 80% of vehicles checked were in order; in 2024, this rate has risen to 90%. The Metropolis reinvests this sum in mobility (roads, cycle paths and tramways).

The influencer Doualemn remains in administrative detention

#MONTPELLIER –Algerian influencer Doualemn, whose contentious comments on TikTok had been reported by the mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse, will remain in administrative detention in Mesnil-Amelot, in Seine-et-Marne. The judge of liberties and detention extended the measure taken against the 59-year-old man by 26 days on Sunday, February 2, 2025. The Paris administrative court had suspended his expulsion on Wednesday without reversing the withdrawal of his residence permit. On Sunday, his lawyers pointed out their client's state of health. Arrested on January 4, 2025, Doualemn was expelled by decision of the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau on January 9, 2025 and returned to France by Algeria the following day.

Angry experts

#GARD –Legal experts in the Nîmes region deplore payment delays from the Ministry of Justice. Interpreters, mechanics, doctors and especially psychiatrists are said to be affected by these unpaid bills, which for some represent “several tens of thousands of euros”, a burden deemed “unbearable”. For the time being, the rendering of the current reports does not seem to be affected, but experts are considering no longer accepting new missions, thus threatening the smooth running of the judicial process. “This is a national problem that is not specific to Gard”, testifies a specialist who contacted one of his colleagues in Aix-en-Provence where a petition has been launched.

LGV: the “blunder” of the Agglo de Sète

#HERAULT – The joint letter sent by the Agglo de Sète to Prime Minister François Bayrou in early January 2025 regarding the elected officials' fears about the LGV file did not go through. The letter is in fact the same as the one sent to Michel Barnier in late November 2024 in which the elected officials are requesting a “complete review” of the Montpellier-Perpignan high-speed line (LNMP) project, as currently planned. That's where the problem lies. The first letter had been signed, in all conscience, by all the mayors of the Agglo. And in no case the second. Furthermore, the first magistrates concerned were not notified. And this could create unease. “Between the first letter and the second, things have changed. The Occitanie Region and the State have come together to discuss the matter. There is currently a whole phase of negotiations”, specifies Michel Arrouy, the mayor of Frontignan, who “takes it as a usurpation of signature” and expects “apologies and a withdrawal of this letter”.
