Dans le cadre des travaux de consolidation du parking Gambetta, l’itinéraire de la ligne 3 du tramway sera interrompu entre les stations Jules-Guesde et Observatoire.

Construction sites in a city are a bit like turbulence in an airplane, they disrupt everything. The people of Montpellier, who use tram line 3 to get around, will also be there starting January 6 and even until March 16. Exactly two months and ten days of commotion for everyone and disruption of habits while waiting for everything to get back to normal.

When line 5 causes trouble on line 3

This is not the first time that line 3 will be cut off because of line 5. This was the case last summer during major works between the station and Plan Cabannes, intended to lay the tracks for line 5 in this area. It was during this construction site that the secret was discovered, namely a significant weakness in the upper slab of the Gambetta car park, due to hollow beams that the engineers thought were solid, according to brief plans dating back almost 40 years. Between the passage of the current line 3 and that of the future line 5, it is too much to support the overall weight on this parking lot. Consequence: the whole thing must be consolidated. However, it is impossible for the companies involved in the construction site to undertake such major repairs. The TaM finally made a decision by postponing the work until January 2025, just after the end-of-year holidays, in order to have as little impact as possible on the traders on Cours Gambetta.

Two replacement solutions

Alternative solutions have been put in place for tramway users while waiting for line 3 to resume full service. From this Monday, January 6, shuttle buses have been set up to provide service to the stops located between Jules-Guesde and Gare Saint-Roch (Pont de Sète).

These shuttles will operate on the same schedule as line 3, i.e. between 4:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on weekdays, and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Expect a bus to pass approximately every three minutes during rush hour and approximately every five minutes during off-peak hours.

Furthermore, and in addition, line 3 will be extended from Observatoire to the Place Albert 1er – Saint-Charles station, connecting with line 1, whose Mosson terminus is shared with that of line 3. All that remains is to cross our fingers that there will be no more problems.

With the work on the Bustram, car traffic will be modified

To minimise the impact on car traffic as construction of the first Bustram line continues, night work will be undertaken and several diversions will be put in place: at Avenue de la Pompignane from 6 to 10 January, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.; rue Henri-Pequet, from January 13 to 17, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., and from January 20 to 24, at the same times.

The work carried out during the day, between January 8 and 17, will require the temporary closure of the access ramp to the Juv&eacutenal bridge, from the Christophe-Colomb roundabout. also, a diversion will be proposed.

Finally, from January 20 to the end of February, the works will lead to the temporary one-way traffic on the Juv&eacutenal bridge, towards Montpellier. Consequently, a diversion will be proposed.
