Cora supermarkets are disappearing, the store near you will change on this date

The Cora brand has been bought. Since October 1st, Supermarkets are disappearing. Here's what's happening to the one near you and when it's going to transform.

The Cora brand, created in 1969, has around sixty supermarkets in France, a large number of which are located in the north and east of the country. For several years, the group has been experiencing financial difficulties. Since its creation, Cora has been franchised by the Carrefour group, but the link between the brands has since evolved. In July 2023, Carrefour announced the acquisition of Cora in France. The takeover was effective one year later and the replacement of stores began on October 1.

If nothing had changed for over a year, Cora supermarkets will now become Carrefour. In stores, the transformation will take place with “a transition period of approximately two weeks during which the hypermarkets will remain open”, the group specifies in a press release.

The sign will first be replaced, then it will be the Carrefour product offering that will invade the shelves and “the signage and work clothes will then finalize this changeover”. A 10% price reduction is planned for more than 3,000 references in its new stores. Carrefour thus retains its number 2 position in mass distribution behind E.Leclerc, despite the acquisition by Intermarché many Casino stores.

The change will take place throughout the month, in three waves of around twenty stores. From October 1st, your Cora store will be transformed if you live in Arcueil, Creil Saint-Maximin, Ermont, Essey-Lès-Nancy, Forbach, Garges-Lès-Gonesse, Grosbliederstroff, Longeville-lès-Saint-Avold, Lunéville, Massy, ​​Metz-Technopole, Mondelange, Moulins-lès-Metz, Nancy-Houdemont, Saint-Dizier, Sainte-Marie-aux-Chênes, Sarreguemines, Toul and Verdun.

A second wave will take place mid-October with Belfort-Andelnans, Bruay-la-Buissière, Cambrai-Proville, Colmar-Houssen, Courrieres, Dorlisheim, Dunkerque-Coudekerque, Haguenau, Lens 2, Montbéliard, Mulhouse-Dornach, Remiremont, Saint-Quentin, Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, Sarrebourg, Strasbourg-Mundo, Vesoul, Villeneuve-d'Ascq-Flers, Wattignies and Wittenheim. 

Finally, a final wave at the end of October will put an end to the Cora stores. Alès, Amphion, Auxerre-Monéteau, Blois, Caen-Rots, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon-Perrigny, Dole, Dreux, &Evreux-Saint-Taurin, Limoges, Livry-Gargan, Pavillons-Sous-Bois, Reims-Cormontreuil, Reims-Neuvillette, Rennes-Pac, Saint-Jouan-des-Gurets, Soissons, Val-d'Yerres-Boussy, Vichy and Villers-Semeuse will be affected. Three major commercial events will celebrate the transition after each wave: October 25, November 5 and November 19 respectively.
