About ten days after François Bayrou was appointed to Matignon, the Elysée Palace unveiled the new government on Monday, marked by the return of Elisabeth Borne, appointed to the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research, that of Gérald Darmanin, appointed to Justice, and Manuel Valls, to Overseas Territories.

A busy schedule awaits this new team from the beginning of 2025. The first council of ministers will be held on January 3, announced Monday Alexis Kohler, Secretary General of the Elysée Palace.

No vote of confidence

Another important and anticipated moment: the general policy speech. François Bayrou will deliver it in the National Assembly on Tuesday, January 14. The Prime Minister has already announced that he will not request a vote of confidence from the deputies. In keeping with Republican tradition, it is not obligatory. Before him, neither Elisabeth Borne, nor Gabriel Attal, nor Michel Barnier – the three predecessors of the mayor of Pau – had submitted to it.

There will probably be a motion of censure” which will serve as a vote of confidence for François Bayrou. La France Insoumise has already announced that it will file one to try to bring down the new government straight away.

If he stays in place, the Prime Minister will then have a very tight schedule for the 2025 budget, indicates BFMTV.

The parliamentary shuttle will have until February 24 to examine it, before the National Assembly's winter recess.
